Jonathan Survived!

July Trip #3

Our last and final trip in July was to New York. We first went to Jonathan's parents house for a quick visit (they live near West Point Military Academy, about an hour away from NYC). We were only there for about a day and a half. The highlight for Alex came when we ran errands together and ended up near a Babies R Us! What an emporium of baby stuff! Had we not had a car full of camping stuff, three people and a guitar, we would have loaded up. But alas, that will have to happen on a trip to North Carolina that we can also combine with going to the LDS temple in Raleigh.

We headed off on Friday morning with Jonathan's younger brother in tow to upstate New York (near Rochester) to see an outdoor church pageant called "The Hill Cumorah." We met up with some friends from Roanoke who were also there to tour church history sites and see the pageant. After going to a few historical places (the place where the Book of Mormon was first published and the Sacred Grove), we got some food and headed over to the pageant grounds. We had a fun picnic dinner and Jonathan and our friend Travis picked on their musical instruments while waiting for darkness to fall and the pageant to start.

A long and arduous drive home brought us back to Roanoke late Saturday night. Jonathan's younger brother Grant stayed in Roanoke for a week while his parents were on vacation.
