I think it is so hard to get a picture of babies and see what they really look like. This is a great picture of Lucy. Minus the red eyes. Why does our camera do that? Even when we have the red-eye reducation on?
I love that picture. Her little grin reminds me of Jackson. You can remove the red eye in your photo editing program and then save it and upload it. Blue eyes show up with more red than any. My sister's kids all had blue eyes and their pictures looked like a family of zombies - this was in the days long before red-eye reduction. :)

The reason any camera does it is primarily due to how close the flash is to the lens. Eyes are the reddest when the light goes in at 90 degrees, bounces off the retina and is seen at 90 degrees. Since the angle of reflection equals the angle of refraction, then the closer your lens (point of observation) is to the flash (point of origin), then the redder it will look. This is part of the reason the flashes are way off to the side in professional photography studios. If you have a small camera, then the lens and the flash will be close together. There are trade-offs to small, convenient cameras :)
The other contributor to red eyes is how large the pupils are, since the smaller they are, the less light can get it (and out) and the closer to 90 degrees the source must be to be seen. Red eye reduction mechanisms simply flash light to try and make the pupils smaller, but that's about all they can do.
The good news is that it is pretty easy to fix in just about any photo editing program. Some cameras will even let you do it in the camera after the shot.
