Greetings from the Lubecks. It has been an exciting week on many fronts and we have much to report and to be grateful for.
First and foremost, Jonathan turned 31 years old on Monday. It wasn't quite as traumatic for him as was his 30th. Just another happy year has gone by. For some reason number 30 provoked an unusual amount of reflection and self-evaluation. He hopes this doesn't happen again until his 80th. Anyways, he was given many fine gifts by loved ones and Ivy graciously helped him unwrap them. The gifts centered around his favorite hobbies and pastimes namely music, gardening, cooking and reading.
Monday was also a big day in that Jonathan started his new job working in a private dental practice. He is now working for Dr. Gary Roach as an associate dentist. It is completely different than his job at Small Smiles. He will be seeing mostly adults as opposed to children and will be doing many different procedures than the ones that he became accustomed to performing. It is an exciting and inspiring time. Dr. Roach and his family are wonderful and extremely kind and generous. Also working at the office is one Dr. Parks who has recently retired as a dentist in the Veterans health care system. He is also incredibly nice and knowledgable. The first week was a little on the slow side (by design) to allow him some time to get used to his new surroundings but things should pick up in the near future.
This was also Alex's last week of teaching. Technically she has to go into work tomarrow for a couple of hours of cleanup but she is pretty much done with work for who knows how long. Maybe forever. Now she will just live on easy street, reading books by the pool and eating bon-bons. Just kidding. The real work is just beginning. Not only will she have to look after one very high maintenance boy but she will have another one to look after come October.
We had a good weekend we started by playing games with Pete, Chrissy, Katie and Josh on friday night. Chrissy showed us how to efficiently run power plants in Power Grid. We also had fun watching the kids dance to some music and enjoyed a delicious bowl of tortilla soup.
Saturday was another quite one. Jonathan met the kids and Pete, Chrissy, Katie and Josh at the YMCA for some racketball and some swimming while Alex got some extra sleep and tried to get rid of her cold. We then tidied around the house and ran some errands. In the late afternoon we drove down to Pittsylvania county to attend the wedding of one of the very nice dental hygienists from Small Smiles. It was a gorgeous drive and a beautiful wedding. At night we vegged in front of a movie.
Today was of course church. It was a great sacrament meeting with many of the seminary kids giving talks as well as the seminary instructor, Brother Hunt. Jonathan also taught young mens today and feels like the lesson on having a broken heart and a contrite spirit went pretty well.
We are very excited for another week. Especially Alex who will now be able to finally get as much sleep as her body needs. Also, she won't have to worry about Jonathan keeping her up to late at night because she can sleep in if she so desires. Will report in soon.
